THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD | Reflections
Bro. James "Jimbo" Arana reflects on the visit of the Three Wise Men (Magi) to pay homage to the Holy Infant Jesus. They brought with them gifts as follows: gold that symbolizes Jesus Christ's Kingship over all the earth and/or the universe; frankincense, a sweet smelling resin or gum used in worship, representing Christ's Divinity and Royal Priesthood; and myrrh, an ointment used in burial, foreshadows His passion and death. Legend has it that the three wise men, or kings to other sources, represent the three continents - Asia, Africa and Europe. How come the Royal visitors from far-flung kingdoms came to recognize and adore the Holy Infant? While His people, the Chosen race, His clans on earth failed to recognize Him as the King who is to come. Jesus came in the dead of the night as a poor infant borne by a woman who was married to a lowly carpenter. His first visitors and adorers were poor shepherds. What a paradox!
What gifts or presents can we give to Jesus now that we know that He is the Son of God; the King of kings; and all that He had done and suffered for us, for our salvation?
