The Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific: An Overview

The Jesuits have been in Asia since the earliest history of the Society of Jesus. More than 450 years ago, in 1542, Francis Xavier, one of the founding members of the Society, landed in Goa, opening new ways of access to bring the Gospel to the world and preparing the way for future Jesuits.

Today, the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific (JCAP) covers Jesuit life and service in 16 countries: Australia, Cambodia, mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. Recently, the Myanmar and Pakistan missions were entrusted to JCAP's care. We are joined in our mission by laymen and women, both friends and colleagues, who work with us in a wide range of apostolic ministries.
