When Lucas visited his parents in the province with his wife and children, he proposed selling their farm so his parents could live with his family in Manila.
However, his father stood firm in his principles, believing that selling the farm would cause others to go hungry, as greedy developers might turn the land into a golf course or subdivision.
Though his father had hoped Lucas would study agriculture to help on their farm, Lucas pursued engineering instead. Lucas' plan was rejected by his father, who believed Manila was rife with pollution, drugs, and corruption. His father reminded Lucas that the pursuit of quick wealth often leads to trouble. Before leaving for Manila, Lucas was enlightened, and he rushed back to embrace his father.
