UNTOUCHABLES OF CUBAO? | Bishop Elias and Bishop Nes

In the film, "The Untouchables"; a paradigm shift came in the Prohibition Era as Eliot Ness famously led the charge against organized crime, bringing law and order to 1920s Chicago. Similarly, the Catholic Church sees a new chapter of leadership as Bishop Elias Ayuban succeeds Bishop "Nes" Ontiongco in the Diocese of Cubao.

Why the comparisons to Eliot Ness? Combine their names, and you get "Elias-Nes"—reminiscent of Eliot Ness himself. While Ness took on gangsters, these bishops tackle spiritual challenges through synodality, to lead their flock with the goal of a missionary Church... and both, funnily enough, have been given the title of being "Untouchable" for the way they pioneered and conducted their respective spiritual mission.

A new era begins with leadership as steadfast and resolute as Eliot Ness's handling of Al Capone. The stakes may differ, but the commitment to justice, righteousness, and to save — civilians for Ness, souls for these two bishops — are always on the table.
