Lui was to be assigned to New York City as a nurse. As she arrived, she was met by her friend, Myrna, who showed her around. Lui was invited by Myrna to her house, where she also met Girlie. During one of her visits, Lui noticed some bruises on Myrna's arms but told her to ignore them.
The time came when Myrna frequently had fever and blain or boil in her body. Lui told Myrna to see a doctor, but she rejected the idea until she collapsed.

At the hospital, in March 2007, the doctor told Myrna that she has leukemia and needs to undergo chemotherapy. Having done so, Myrna lost some of her hair, which caused Lui to cover her head to hide baldness on some exposed parts.
Myrna hid her severe situation from his father. Myrna felt her health was deteriorating and wanted to return to her family in the Philippines to be with them in her remaining days.
Lui accompanied Myrna on her trip back to the Philippines despite warnings from her employer for exceeding the allowed leave of absence. Myrna was extremely thankful to Lui for all her efforts in helping her. Lui replied by saying friends love at all times and that Myrna likewise helped her during her trying times.
Myrna and Lui arrived in the Philippines at 11:00 a.m. on August 11, 2007. Myrna was welcomed by her family with deep sadness. However, at 3:00 p.m. on the same day, just 30 minutes after Lui bid goodbye, Myrna passed away.
