CMM - CFAM MEDIA MINISTRY
VENERABLE CARLO GNOCCHI
PRIEST
February 28
Carlo was born at San Colombano al Lambro, Italy, in 1902. Ordained priest in 1925, he had his first pastoral experiences as a parish priest and as chaplain of the Gonzaga Institute of Milan. He was military chaplain of the Alpini, first in Greece and then in Russia. He came away from these experiences suffering such a profound spiritual crisis that, on his return, he dedicated all his efforts to the care of orphans, children mutilated by bombardments, and the disabled. He died in 1956. He is on the way toward canonization, having been declared venerable in 2002.
In iconography Don Gnocchi is depicted in the dress of an Alpino or with the cassock and together with children.
NAME: Carlo (Charles) is from the German and means “man, or free man.”
Venerable Carlo Gnocchi.
