WALK WITH THE LORD | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (January 22, 2023)
Today is the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time; and in the gospel, Matthew describes the beginning of Jesus’s public ministry. After his baptism by John the Baptist, Jesus retreated to the desert for forty days. Hearing about John’s arrest, Jesus went to Galilee where he began to preach: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Jesus also called his first disciples: Simon and Andrew and then James and John. They were fishermen. And with them, Jesus “went around all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease and illness among the people.”
Friends, when Jesus began his public ministry, he also inaugurated the Kingdom of God. His preaching and healing are signs of God’s Kingdom. Jesus is the missioner of God’s Kingdom. He calls us to walk after Him as disciples and walk with Him as apostles.
