WALKING WITH THE WAYWARD | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (September 6, 2026) with Sign Language

We are on the Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time; and in today’s gospel, the Lord teaches us how to resolve disagreements and conflicts due to erring brothers and sisters.

Jesus tells his disciples: If a brother sins against you, discuss it with him in private. If he listens to you, you have won over your brother. However, if he won’t listen to you, take one or two who could help so that every fact may be established. If he still refuses to listen, go ahead and tell the church. If this last resort still won’t work, “treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector.”

Jesus acknowledges that in our relationships there would be misunderstandings and differences. How do we forge reconciliation, brothers and sisters? By making conflict resolution a time for prayer. The Lord says: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Let us go back to this lesson. Do we invite Jesus to be with us as we settle our disputes and grievances? Are we ready to walk with the wayward as Jesus did?
