The World Evangelical Alliance urged the Sri Lankan government and the incoming president to uphold their obligations to protect the freedom of religion or belief for all citizens, to refrain from mandating registration for places of worship, and to repeal the Online Safety Act.

The oral statement was made at the Human Rights Council 57th session, during the Interactive dialogue on the report of the High Commissioner for human rights on promoting reconciliation, accountability, and human rights in Sri Lanka, on 9 September 2024.
