Daily Bread Devotional:
Devotional Topic: "LIFE EVERLASTING"

Verse of the Day: John 17:3

Devotional Message:
(John 17:3)
"Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."

Observation:

When you hear the words "life everlasting", what comes to your mind?
Maybe you think about heaven — a place where there’s no more sickness, no more tears, and no more death.
Maybe you imagine living forever with God in a perfect world.
And that is true. Heaven is real, and eternity is real.

But when Jesus speaks in John 17:3, He gives us an even deeper truth about what everlasting life really is.
He says:

"This is life eternal: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent."

In other words, life everlasting is not just living forever.
It is knowing God personally and knowing Jesus Christ whom God sent.

This tells us that eternal life is not just about the future — it’s about our life with God starting right now.

Many people think that life with God begins when they die.
But Jesus says it begins the moment we start truly knowing Him.
It’s like entering a new world — a world where God is not distant but near, a world where our hearts are filled with His love, joy, and peace.

And the word "know" here is very important.
It’s not just about knowing facts about God — like knowing that He is powerful or that He created the world.
It’s about having a deep, close, and real relationship with Him.

It’s like the difference between reading about a famous person and actually being their best friend.
You may know a lot about a celebrity by reading magazines or watching interviews, but that doesn't mean you know them personally.
God doesn't want us to just know about Him.
He wants us to experience Him, talk to Him, walk with Him, and love Him like a true friend and Father.

This is the heart of everlasting life: a living, growing relationship with God.

Application:

Now, let’s think about what this means for us today.

Many people are busy chasing different kinds of "life."
Some chase a successful life — building careers, making money, becoming popular.
Some chase an easy life — trying to avoid pain, sadness, or problems.
Some chase an exciting life — always looking for the next adventure, the next thrill.

But no matter how successful, easy, or exciting life becomes, without knowing God, something will always be missing.
Because we were created for a relationship with God.
Our hearts are designed to know Him and be known by Him.

That’s why even the richest or most powerful people still feel empty without God.
Because life everlasting is not found in what we achieve — it is found in Who we know.

So the most important question is not:

"How much money do I have?"

"How many friends do I have?"

"How popular am I?"

The most important question is:

"Do I truly know God?"

"Am I walking with Jesus every day?"

Knowing God is not automatic.
It’s like any friendship — it grows when we spend time together, when we listen, when we trust, when we share our hearts.

How do we know God more?

By talking to Him in prayer — honestly, like a real friend.

By reading His Word — the Bible — and asking, "God, what are You teaching me today?"

By obeying His words, even when it’s hard or when the world tells us to do the opposite.

By trusting Him in every season — in good times and in painful times.

By loving others, because when we love others, we show that we belong to God.

Every day is an opportunity to know God deeper.
Every challenge is a chance to trust Him more.
Every blessing is a reminder of His goodness.
Every moment is a step in the journey of everlasting life.

We don’t have to wait until heaven to start living everlasting life.
We can experience it here and now — a life full of meaning, purpose, hope, and joy — because we walk with God daily.

Even when life on earth gets hard, when pain or problems come, knowing God gives us a hope that never dies.
It’s a hope that says, "God is with me now, and He will be with me forever."

Challenge:

So today, I challenge you:
Don't settle for just knowing about God.
Don't settle for just attending church or going through religious motions.

Seek to know God personally.

Prayer:
Father God, thank You for the gift of everlasting life through Jesus.
Help me to know You more each day, not just with my mind but with my heart.
Teach me to walk closely with You now and forever.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
