nqc2021
In observance of the Year of Filipino Pre-Colonial Ancestors and the 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines (QCP), the National Quincentennial Committee (NQC) holds a Commemorative Lecture on the Birth Centenary of Philippine Historian William Henry Scott on this day, 10 July 2021, starting at 10 AM.
Today’s guest lecturer is Dr. Victor Paz of the University of the Philippines (UP) -Archaeological Studies Program.
Scott was an American Episcopal missionary to the Philippines. He later settled and raised a family in Sagada, Mt. Province. He was among the giants in Philippine history, particularly in debunking the myths that our ancestors were savage and uncultured before the Spaniards came. He helped reconstruct the Philippine pre-colonial history using Chinese and Portuguese accounts, as well as early colonial history through ethnohistorical methodology, among others.
