Devotional Topic: "INFORMATION AND EVIDENCE"
Verse of the Day: John 20:31
Devotional Message:
(John 20:31)
"These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God."
Observation
Imagine you are in a courtroom. A case is being presented, and the judge will decide based on the information and evidence given. Witnesses are called, documents are examined, and everything is considered carefully before reaching a conclusion. Now, think about your own life. How do you decide what is true? You look for information and evidence, right?
The Bible works in the same way. John, one of Jesus’ disciples, wrote his Gospel to give us solid information and evidence about who Jesus really is. He didn’t just write stories for entertainment; he recorded real events, miracles, and teachings so that people could know the truth about Jesus. The verse says, “These are written that you may believe…” John is saying, “I’m giving you the facts. Look at the evidence. See for yourself that Jesus is the Son of God.”
One powerful piece of evidence was Jesus’ resurrection. Thomas, one of the disciples, struggled to believe until he saw Jesus with his own eyes. But when he finally saw the risen Jesus, he exclaimed, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28). Jesus then told him, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” That includes us today.
Application
In our daily lives, we often say, “I’ll believe it when I see it.” But faith doesn’t always work that way. We don’t see the wind, but we feel it. We don’t see gravity, but we know it’s there because we see its effects. Faith in Jesus is similar. We may not see Him physically, but we have strong evidence of His existence and power—through the Bible, through changed lives, and through our own experiences with Him.
Think about a person who was once lost in sin but changed after encountering Jesus. Maybe you know someone who was once filled with anger, addiction, or hopelessness, but now they live with peace and purpose. That transformation is evidence that Jesus is real.
So how do we respond to this information and evidence?
1. Believe in Jesus – If you’ve been struggling with doubts, take time to read God’s Word and examine the evidence. Jesus is the Son of God, and believing in Him leads to eternal life.
2. Strengthen Your Faith – Faith grows when we spend time in prayer, worship, and studying God’s Word. If we feed our minds with doubts, we will struggle. But if we feed our minds with truth, our faith will grow.
3. Share the Evidence – Just like John wrote so that others could believe, we are called to share what we know about Jesus. You don’t need to be a Bible scholar; just share your personal experiences. Tell others how Jesus has changed your life.
At the end of the day, everyone builds their life on something—money, success, relationships, or faith. But only faith in Jesus leads to true life. The evidence is there. The question is, will you believe?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us the truth about Jesus. Help us to believe, even when we don’t see. Strengthen our faith and give us the courage to share Your truth with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
