Devotional Message:
(Isaiah 64:6)
"All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags."

Observation:
Have you ever tried to clean something very dirty with an old, dirty rag? Maybe you wiped a table with it, but instead of making it clean, it just spread more dirt. No matter how hard you tried, the table still looked messy. You wanted it to be clean, but the rag itself was already dirty—it couldn’t do the job.

This is how our good works look before God when we rely on them to make ourselves right with Him. We may try our best to be good people, do good things, help others, and avoid doing wrong. These are good efforts, but Isaiah 64:6 reminds us that, compared to God’s perfect holiness, even our best efforts are like filthy rags. We cannot clean our sinful hearts with our own strength. Our sin is like a deep stain that no human soap can wash away. We may look clean on the outside, but God sees what’s inside—our thoughts, motives, and hidden struggles. He knows the sins we hide from others.

Sin separates us from God. It is like a barrier that keeps us from getting close to Him. We may try to cover it up with good deeds, but sin still remains. Just like a dirty rag can’t clean a stained shirt, our good works can’t clean our sinful hearts. We need something more—we need God’s cleansing.

Application:
Imagine you spill a large amount of oil on your favorite white shirt. You rush to the sink and try to wash it with plain water, but the stain only spreads. You use soap, but it doesn’t work. The shirt is ruined. You feel frustrated because nothing you do can bring back its whiteness.

But then, someone offers you a powerful stain remover. You follow their instructions, and to your amazement, the stain is completely gone. The shirt looks brand new.

This is what God does for us through Jesus Christ. Our sins stain us, and we can’t
