Devotional Message:
(Psalm 40:8)
"I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart."
Observation:
Have you ever asked God for a sign? Maybe you were making a big decision, facing a challenge, or unsure of what to do next. You prayed, "Lord, if this is Your will, show me a sign!" Then, you looked for something—maybe a specific answer in a conversation, a sudden change in circumstances, or even a verse that seemed to speak directly to your situation.
While God can give us signs, the real question is: Are we seeking a sign more than we are seeking God? Many times, we want clear direction, but we don’t take the time to listen to what God has already said in His Word. The psalmist in Psalm 40:8 said, “I desire to do Your will, my God; Your law is within my heart.” This means that knowing and following God’s will isn’t about waiting for a mysterious sign. It’s about keeping His Word in our hearts and obeying it.
If we always rely on external signs, we might ignore the quiet but powerful guidance of the Holy Spirit. God has already given us His Word, and when we read it daily, we begin to understand His will for our lives. Signs may come, but true direction comes from a heart that longs to obey God, not just from external confirmations.
Application:
Think about a time when you asked God for a sign. Did you wait for something dramatic, or did you seek His guidance through His Word? Instead of always waiting for a sign, let’s start by filling our hearts with Scripture. When we do this, we will recognize God's leading without needing constant external confirmation.
Here are some ways to apply Psalm 40:8 in our daily lives:
1. Read the Bible Daily. The more we know God’s Word, the easier it is to understand His will.
2. Pray for Wisdom, Not Just Signs. Instead of asking for a sign, pray that God gives you wisdom to make the right choice.
3. Obey What You Already
