Devotional Message:
(Numbers 22:28)
"Then the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth..."

Observation

One of the most unusual events in the Bible happened to a man named Balaam. He was on his way to meet Balak, the king of Moab, who wanted him to curse Israel. But Balaam’s journey was not going as planned. God was not pleased with him, so He sent an angel to block his path. The problem? Balaam couldn’t see the angel.

However, his donkey could. Each time the donkey saw the angel, it refused to move forward, trying to protect Balaam from danger. But instead of realizing something was wrong, Balaam became frustrated and beat the poor animal three times. Then, something amazing happened—God opened the donkey’s mouth, and it spoke! It asked Balaam why he was treating it so harshly. At that moment, God also opened Balaam’s eyes, and he finally saw the angel standing in the road with a sword.

Balaam learned a humbling lesson that day. He was supposed to be a prophet, someone who listened to God, but he had been spiritually blind. The donkey, a simple animal, had more awareness of God’s presence than Balaam did. God used a donkey—an ordinary, unexpected messenger—to speak His truth and open Balaam’s eyes.

I once read a story about a scientist who was studying a group of baboons. Every day, he would go into the wild to observe them, taking notes and writing reports. But one day, something unexpected happened. The baboons, instead of going about their usual activities, started making loud noises and running up the trees. The scientist was confused. Everything seemed normal to him—no danger, no threats.

Then, out of nowhere, a huge lion emerged from the bushes! The baboons had sensed it long before the scientist did. Their instincts warned them, but he ignored the signs. He had been so focused on his work that he failed to see the danger right in front of him.
