Daily Bread Devotional:
Devotional Topic: COFFEE BREATH

Verse of the Day: Ephesians 4:2

Devotional Message:
(Ephesians 4:2)
"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love."

Devotional Message:

Have you ever been close to someone with strong coffee breath? It can be unpleasant, right? You might want to step back, or maybe you feel the urge to politely offer them a mint. But here’s the thing: coffee breath isn’t permanent. It’s just a small part of who that person is, and it doesn’t define their value or character.

Now, let’s think about our relationships. In life, we often encounter people whose “coffee breath” comes in other forms—faults, habits, or attitudes that might annoy or frustrate us. Maybe it’s a friend who talks too much, a co-worker who interrupts, or a family member who doesn’t listen. These things can test our patience, but Ephesians 4:2 reminds us how we should respond: with humility, gentleness, patience, and love.

Humility means recognizing that we, too, have our own “coffee breath.” We’re not perfect. Just as others might irritate us, we might also irritate them. Gentleness means addressing issues kindly, without harshness or criticism. Instead of snapping or rolling our eyes, we can choose words that heal, not hurt.

Patience is probably the hardest part. It means choosing to bear with others’ flaws and giving them grace even when it’s difficult. Love ties it all together. When we see people through the lens of love, we focus less on their flaws and more on their worth. Just as God loves us despite our imperfections, we’re called to love others in the same way.

So the next time you encounter someone whose “coffee breath” frustrates you, pause and remember that this is an opportunity to practice humility, gentleness, patience, and love. Instead of stepping back or offering a mint in frustration, offer understanding and kindness. This kind of love transforms relationships, creates peace, and reflects the heart of Christ to those around us.

Application:

1. Reflect on Your Flaws: Think about your own “coffee breath.” What are some habits or attitudes you have that might frustrate others? Pray for God to help you grow in those areas.

2. Respond with Kindness: The next time someone annoys you, take a deep breath and choose to respond with gentleness instead of irritation.

3. Practice Patience: Make a conscious effort to bear with others in love, especially when they make mistakes. Remember, patience isn’t just waiting; it’s waiting without complaining.

4. Show Love Daily: Look for opportunities to show love to those who are difficult to love. This could be as simple as listening without interrupting or forgiving a minor offense.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for loving me despite my flaws. Help me to be humble, gentle, and patient with others, just as You are with me. Teach me to bear with others in love and see them through Your eyes. Amen.
