Devotional Message:
(Genesis 2:2)
"God had finished the work...so on the seventh day he rested from all his work."

Observation

Rest is a concept that comes straight from God. From the very beginning, He set an example for us. After six days of creating the world, He took the seventh day to rest. This wasn’t because He was tired—God does not grow weary. Instead, He was showing us an important truth: Rest is good, and it is necessary.

Yet, many of us struggle with this. We live in a world that values constant productivity. There is pressure to always be doing something—working, studying, creating, or hustling. Some people feel guilty when they take a break, as if rest is a sign of weakness or laziness. Others are afraid that if they slow down, they will fall behind.

But when we look at Genesis 2:2, we see that even God rested. If the Creator of the universe took time to pause, how much more should we? Rest is not just a suggestion; it’s a part of God’s design for us.

Resting doesn’t mean being lazy. It means stopping to recharge, reflect, and renew our strength. It is about trusting God rather than relying on our own efforts. When we rest, we acknowledge that the world will not fall apart without us. God is still in control.

Application

1. Recognize that rest is a gift from God.
Rest is not something to feel guilty about. God gave us permission to rest because He knows we need it. If we ignore this, we will eventually burn out—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

2. Schedule time to rest.
Just as we set aside time for work, we should also set aside time to rest. This can be a day off, an evening of quiet, or even a few minutes each day to pause and pray. Don’t wait until you are exhausted to rest—make it a regular habit.

3. Trust that God is in control.
