Devotional Message:
(Romans 7:19)
"I do not do the good I want to do,...I keep on doing [evil]."

Observation:

The Apostle Paul, one of the strongest men of faith in history, wrote these words. He openly admitted that he struggled with doing the right thing. This is surprising because Paul was a man devoted to God, preaching the gospel, planting churches, and writing much of the New Testament. Yet, he still had an inner battle—a war between his desire to obey God and his sinful nature.

This struggle is something we can all relate to. Have you ever set your mind on doing what is right, only to find yourself doing the exact opposite? Maybe you planned to be patient with someone, but you lost your temper. Perhaps you promised to avoid a certain sin, but you gave in again. This is the reality of human weakness. Even when we want to do good, we sometimes fail. And even when we hate sin, we sometimes fall into it.

Why does this happen? Because of the sinful nature within us. Ever since the fall of Adam and Eve, mankind has been born with a tendency to sin. Even when we become believers, this sinful nature still tries to pull us away from God’s will. But there is hope—Paul does not stop in Romans 7. In the next chapter, he reminds us that we have victory through Jesus Christ (Romans 8:1-2).

Application:

So, what should we do when we struggle with this battle between right and wrong? Here are some practical steps:

1. Acknowledge the Struggle
We must admit that we struggle. Even Paul, a great servant of God, was humble enough to confess his weaknesses. If we pretend we don’t struggle, we won’t be able to overcome it. Honesty before God is the first step toward victory.

2. Rely on God’s Strength, Not Our Own
Many times, we try to overcome sin with willpower alone, but that is not enough. We need the power of the Holy Spirit. In Romans 8:13, Paul says that by the Spirit, we
