Sometime in 1995 in the United States there were well over one million divorces. For every 8 marriages, there was one divorce. Nearly every state had enacted "no fault" divorce laws, making divorce almost as easy as marriage. It is not surprising that the largest caseloads in civil courts during that time relate to family disputes.

In more recent statistics, according to the American Psychological Association, approximately 40-50% of first marriages end in divorce. The divorce rate for second marriages is even higher, with approximately 60-67% of second marriages ending in divorce.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the divorce rate in the United States was 3.2 per 1,000 population in 2019, down from 3.6 per 1,000 population in 2018. This means that approximately 827,261 divorces were recorded in 2019, with the total number of divorces since 2000 topping 8.3 million.
One entertainer in the United States divorced her husband because she felt that her husband was a detriment to her career. Someone said, "couples are married for better or for worse, BUT NOT FOR LONG."
