EASTER: A JOURNEY OF HOPE | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (April 20, 2025)

The gospel narrates that when Mary of Magdala “came to the tomb early in the morning [she] saw the stone removed from the tomb [of Jesus]”—so she ran and reported the incident to Simon Peter and the other disciple whom Jesus loved. They then went to the tomb, and saw the burial wrappings on the ground and the cloth that had covered Jesus’s head rolled up on separate place.

Saint John tells us that at the time “they did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead.” We can imagine the shock and confusion of these disciples upon seeing the empty tomb, and in the coming days, as we continue our Easter journey, we will see that they indeed struggle with it. How did they overcome it? The Risen Lord himself accompanied them, helping them understand and believe the truth of his resurrection.

Friends, one of the messages of the Resurrection is hope in the new life that Jesus accomplished for us through his passion and death. The glorious life of the Risen Lord is shared with us now. The Risen Lord gives us hope, the Risen Lord is our hope. Alleluia!
