Safeguarding is not about seeing potential abusers and victims everywhere. It is about illuminating the darkest corners of the Church—not to create suspicion, but to prevent harm, expose what threatens the vulnerable, and foster a culture of integrity and transparency.

In this reflection, safeguarding is likened to the daily work of a chambermaid who opens windows, draws curtains, and allows light and fresh air into every corner of a room. The task may be quiet and often unseen, but it is essential. Likewise, safeguarding requires sustained vigilance, honest self-examination, and the courage to address what must not remain hidden.

As the Church strengthens its safeguarding framework, the challenge is to move beyond uncovering wrongdoing toward building systems and communities where safety, accountability, and transparency become part of everyday life.

The journey may be demanding, but we do not walk it alone. Through collaboration, shared commitment, and the light of Christ, we can bring this mission into our own dioceses, parishes, and ministries.

**Safeguarding is not a one-time task. It is a commitment to keeping the light burning until every corner of the Church reflects the integrity and goodness of the Lord.**

May the Lord sustain us in His light and scatter our darkness.
