Misa de Gallo by Joey Albert [lyric video]
Lloyd De Leon
The track is from the 1987 record album of Joey Albert entitled "Maligayang Pasko" which was re-released by Polyeast Records in 2014. It was made famous by the catchy Christmas song, “Kumukutikutitap”. However, if you will listen to whole album you will be amazed to hear the new arrangements of traditional Filipino Christmas tunes by Ryan Cayabyab, Louie Ocampo and others.
This version of 'Misa de Gallo' caught my attention when I was hanging around Virra Mall's National Bookstore back in the late 80's. To the young audiences reading this, yes, they have mini record bars inside National Bookstores back then. Anyway, a random customer had the tape played. The moment I heard the solemn tolling of the church bell (kalembang ng kampana) followed by the soft instrumental and then the sweet sound of Joey's voice singing the fist line of this familiar song, I told myself I've got to have that cassette. It has been one of my 2 all-time favorite Tagalog Christmas Recording ever since. The other one is Ryan Cayabyab's 'One Christmas'.

The video uses elements from the cd cover.
Credits: In the instrumental part of the song, I chose Jun Ryan Aronas/Manila Bulletin’s photo of Baclaran church (except the 1st photo) because it perfectly depicts a typical Simbang Gabi.
