THE KING OF FREEDOM AND TRUTH | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (November 24, 2024)
Today is the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. We conclude the liturgical year with this great feast in recognition of Jesus as king. But what kind of king, brothers and sisters?

The gospel gives us some insight into Jesus’s kingship. During his trial before Pilate, Jesus said: “My kingdom does not belong to this world. If my kingdom did belong to this world, my attendants would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews.”
This means that Jesus is indeed king, but not the usual type of king. In the first chapter of the Gospel of John, we would remember that Jesus the Word came into the world but the world did not know or recognize him. The world chose darkness over Light. This is why Jesus was tried and sentenced to death, giving witness to the truth. He is a king who would offer his life, so that his people might be saved.
Truth and freedom is the hallmark of his kingship. Will we follow this king? Will we propagate his kind of kingship? Let us reflect on this as we cap the liturgical year and prepare for a new one.
