Jesus notes that the rich give large sums because it is the surplus of their wealth, while the poor widow can only give two small coins. Between the two, the Lord says, it is the poor woman who has gives more because “she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood.”
Friends, today’s gospel invites us to consider the manner of our giving. What do we give? Do we give something that we no longer like or use? Can we consider giving or giving up something very dear and precious to us?
Do we give from our poverty?
Let us pray for the grace of recognizing our poverty as the source of our generosity.
