Devotional Topic: Living with Kindness and Humility
READ: Titus 2:9-3:15
Verse of the Day: Titus 3:1-2
Devotional Message:
(Titus 3:1-2)
"Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone."
Observation:
In these verses, Paul reminds us of a simple yet powerful truth: as followers of Christ, our words and actions should always reflect kindness, humility, and respect. He tells us to be obedient to authorities, to do good in every opportunity, and to treat others with gentleness.
We live in a world where it is easy to criticize and judge others, where arguments and harsh words spread quickly. Sometimes, we get caught up in the rush of life, and we forget how important it is to slow down and think about how we treat people. But these verses ask us to choose a different path—one that is full of love, patience, and understanding.
Paul specifically tells us not to speak badly about others, to avoid arguments, and to be considerate. It means that instead of reacting in anger or frustration, we should choose to respond with kindness, even when it’s hard. It’s a reminder that our words hold great power, and we have the choice to use them to build others up instead of tearing them down.
These verses teach us that being gentle doesn’t mean being weak—it means being strong enough to show love and patience, even when we’re hurt or disappointed. This kind of behavior stands out in today’s world and points others toward the love and character of Jesus Christ.
Application:
So how do we live this out in our everyday lives? First, we can start by practicing kindness with our words. When we feel the urge to speak negatively about someone, let’s stop and ask ourselves, “Would Jesus say this?” Let’s choose to speak words that encourage, comfort, and uplift instead.
Second, let’s be obedient and respectful toward those in authority, whether it’s our parents, teachers, leaders, or even government officials.
Another practical way to live out these verses is by looking for opportunities to do good. Whether it’s helping a friend, volunteering in your community, or simply offering a smile to someone who seems down, these small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
Lastly, let’s remember to be gentle in our interactions. It’s easy to get frustrated when people don’t meet our expectations or when things don’t go our way. But choosing gentleness means choosing to respond with love and patience, even when it’s difficult.
Prayer:
Lord, help us to be kind and gentle in all our words and actions. Teach us to obey and respect those in authority and to look for opportunities to do good to others. Give us hearts that are full of love and patience, just as You have shown to us. Let our lives reflect Your goodness and grace. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
