Daily Bread Devotional:
Devotional Topic: Staying Connected to the Vine
READ: John 15:1-16

Verse of the Day: John 15:5

Devotional Message:
(John 15:5)
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."

Devotional Message:

Imagine a branch that’s been cut off from a tree. At first, it might look fine, but over time, it withers. Why? Because it can no longer draw the nutrients and life it needs from the tree.

In this verse, Jesus reminds us that He is the source of everything we need to grow and thrive spiritually. Just as a branch cannot survive or bear fruit if it’s not connected to the vine, we cannot produce good works, maintain peace, or truly live out our purpose without staying connected to Jesus.

But what does it mean to "remain in Him"? It means building a close relationship with Him through prayer, reading the Bible, and following His ways in our daily lives. Think of it as constantly drawing strength and wisdom from Jesus, just like a branch draws nutrients from the vine.

Let’s look at some practical ways this applies to our lives:

1. Daily Decisions: When you face challenges or decisions, pause and ask, "What would Jesus want me to do?" By aligning your choices with His teachings, you’re staying connected to Him.

2. Handling Stress: When life feels overwhelming, remind yourself that Jesus is your source of peace. Instead of trying to handle everything on your own, take time to pray and ask for His guidance and strength.

3. Bearing Fruit: Just as healthy branches produce fruit, staying connected to Jesus helps us produce "fruit" in our lives—things like kindness, patience, love, and self-control. These qualities don’t come from our own strength but from God working through us.

Now, Jesus also warns us that apart from Him, we can do nothing. This doesn’t mean we won’t accomplish anything at all, but whatever we do apart from Him will lack lasting value. It’s like planting a seed in dry soil—it might grow a little, but it won’t flourish the way it would in rich, well-watered soil.

So today, let’s take a moment to evaluate: Are we staying connected to the vine? Are we spending time with Jesus and seeking His presence in our lives? Remember, when we are connected to Him, we don’t just survive—we thrive.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for being the true vine and the source of our strength. Help us to remain in You every day, drawing closer to Your presence. Teach us to trust You in all things so that our lives may bear fruit that glorifies You. Amen.
