The province of Leyte is considered the most severely hit by typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in the Philippines. Recovery has become challenging as the affected people experienced typhoons and earthquake after Yolanda.

Women economic empowerment and disaster resilience are actively promoted by CARE, Fatima Multi-Purpose Cooperative and the Global Affairs Canada in communities to help them strengthen their livelihood assets and be able to identify risks and prepare for disasters.
