Typhoon Hagupit (locally known as Ruby) badly hit Samar provinces, Philippines in December 2014. CARE immediately deployed an emergency assessment team to be able to respond to the needs of affected people. CARE and partners LCDE and ACCORD provided emergency food packs in Eastern Samar. CARE stayed in the province to assist in shelter repair and provide water, sanitation and hygiene kits. Aside from kit distributions, CARE has trained key members of the communities in disaster risk reduction and hygiene promotion.
Overall, CARE has supported more than 25,000 people in 4 towns of Eastern Samar.
