Merlinda Defensor, 58 years old, of Barangay Intongcan in Pontevedra, Capiz talked about the support she received from CARE and the Dutch Foundation to restore her damaged livelihood.
Merlinda's house was partially damaged when super typhoon Haiyan slammed her village. She also lost her source of income that made it harder for her to recover.

Upon receiving the cash support, Merlinda re-opened her sari-sari store (small retail outlets that can be found in almost all neighborhoods in the Philippines) and started raising turkeys and ducks.
Merlinda says that her life becomes better now and she plans to fully repair her house from her earnings.
