Devotional Topic: God With Us: The Power of His Presence
READ: John 1:1-18
Verse of the Day: John 1:14
Devotional Message:
(John 1:14)
"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth."
Observation:
"The Word" refers to Jesus Christ, who has always existed with God and is, in fact, God Himself. But in this verse, we see something incredible—God didn't stay distant or far away from us. Instead, He chose to come down to earth and live as a human being. Jesus, who had all the glory and power of God, became one of us.
Think about that for a moment: God, the Creator of the universe, became flesh. He didn’t come down as some untouchable, distant figure. He came as a person—someone we could see, hear, and touch. He experienced what we experience: hunger, thirst, tiredness, and even pain and suffering. He wasn’t content to stay in heaven while we struggled in sin and darkness. No, He came to dwell, or live, among us.
But that’s not all. The verse says, “We have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” Jesus came to show us what God is truly like. He is full of grace—offering us mercy, love, and kindness that we don’t deserve. He is also full of truth, revealing to us the reality of who God is and the way to live a life that pleases Him.
When people encountered Jesus, they saw the glory of God in human form. Through His teachings, His miracles, His compassion, and ultimately His sacrifice on the cross, Jesus revealed God’s heart for humanity.
Application:
So, how does this apply to us today? First, this verse reminds us that God is not distant or uninvolved in our lives. He is "God with us"—Immanuel. No matter what we are going through, He understands because He lived it. When we feel alone, hurt, or burdened by life's challenges, we can find comfort in knowing that Jesus has walked that path before us, and He walks with us now.
Second, we are called to reflect this grace and truth in our own lives. Just as Jesus was full of grace, we are called to show kindness, love, and forgiveness to those around us—even when it’s hard. And just as Jesus was full of truth, we are called to live with integrity and share the truth of God’s love with others. This is how we show the world who God is—through our words and our actions.
Lastly, this verse reminds us of the incredible gift of salvation. Jesus didn’t just come to live among us; He came to rescue us. By becoming flesh and dying on the cross for our sins, He opened the way for us to be forgiven and have eternal life with God. This is the ultimate expression of grace and truth—God’s love for us, despite our failures, and the truth that we need Him to be saved.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for sending Jesus to live among us and show us Your glory. Help us to reflect His grace and truth in our lives each day. May we live in a way that points others to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
