Devotional Topic: Perfected in Christ, Growing in Holiness
Hebrews 10:1-18
Verse of the Day: Hebrews 10:14
Devotional Message:
(Hebrews 10:14)
"For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy."
Observation:
This verse reminds us of something important: Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross was not only a one-time event; it was the ultimate and complete payment for our sins. Because of that sacrifice, those who believe in Him are seen as "perfect" in God’s eyes. But there’s more to the story—this verse also tells us that we are "being made holy."
What does this mean? It means that while Jesus’ death on the cross fully saves us, God is still working in us every day to make us more like Him. Our sins are forgiven, but we are still growing in our faith, still learning to obey and trust God more and more. It’s like a plant that has all it needs to grow, but it still needs time and care to bloom fully. God has planted us in His love through Jesus, and now He is helping us grow to reflect that love.
It’s also comforting to know that we don’t have to be perfect right away. God is patient and continues to work in us, step by step. He sees us as His children, loved and forgiven, even when we make mistakes. We are in a lifelong process of becoming more like Christ, but the good news is that we don’t do it alone—Jesus is the one who already made us "perfect" in God's sight.
Application:
So, what does this look like in our everyday lives? First, it reminds us to be grateful for what Jesus has already done. Because of Him, we don’t have to live with the guilt of our past mistakes. We can live in freedom, knowing that we are forgiven. But this doesn’t mean we should stop trying to grow. In fact, because we are forgiven, we should have a desire to live more like Jesus.
Each day, we should ask ourselves: How can I reflect Jesus in my life today? Maybe it’s in how we treat others—with kindness, patience, and love. Maybe it’s in the choices we make—choosing what is right, even when it’s hard. We should also remember that growing in holiness is a process. It’s not about being perfect right now; it’s about taking one step closer to God every day.
When you fall short, don’t be discouraged. Remember, God is still working in you. He hasn’t given up on you, and He never will. Keep coming back to Him, trusting that He will continue to change you, little by little, into the person He wants you to be.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the perfect sacrifice of Jesus that has made me right with You. Help me to grow each day in holiness and to reflect Your love in everything I do. I trust that You are working in me, even when I fall short. In Jesus' name, Amen.
