THE HISTORY OF MEDIEVAL FRANCE

♦The history of Medieval France is a story of metamorphosis, rulers, kings, invasions, dynasties and centuries of wars in all directions.
After the fall of the Roman Empire, the Franks, conquered the last remaining romans in Gaul, and created one of the strongest kingdoms in Western Europe, eventually producing rulers such as Clovis and Charlemagne. But Charlemagne's empire did not last. Its division helped create West Francia, the kingdom that would slowly become France. Vikings attacked its rivers and cities , while Normandy was eventually granted to the Viking leader Rollo. In 987, Hugh Capet became king and began the Capetian dynasty, whose descendants would rule France for centuries. French knights fought in the Crusades, powerful nobles challenged the monarchy, and the Black Death devastated the population. Then came the Hundred Years' War against England, with Crécy, Poitiers, Agincourt and the rise of Joan of Arc… But by 1453, France had pushed the English from almost all their territories in the kingdom… This is the complete history of Medieval France!
