And no, I didn’t steal the motorcycle! A farmer in Xinhui let me ride his, then took me to pick passionfruit after seeing how much fun I was having. We’d only just met. 🥹

At the next stop, I learned about chenpi: tangerine peel dried, aged and cared for over years. It’s used in cooking, tea and traditional Chinese medicine. Suddenly, something I’d normally throw away had a whole story behind it.
Then came the Kaiping diaolou towers, built with help from money people sent home while working overseas. Imagine being so far away and helping build a home to keep your family safe. 🏡
I came to see the area. It’s that farmer’s welcome I’ll remember most.
