Everyone knows the Shenzhen from the adverts: the robots, the tech, the futuristic skyline. This is the Shenzhen nobody shows you — the Bao'an neighbourhoods where 18 million people actually live. A two-yuan bike ride down streets with no name. Food ordered by pointing your camera at a QR code on a wall. Skewers still grilling at ten at night. A ferris wheel on the water. A city that feels fifty years in the future and still stops to help you find the right restaurant.
This is my China — real, warm, and nothing like I expected.
